A dress comes to life. The underconstruction and a first draping-test can be seen in the previous post. The entire dress is constructed from only eight pieces of (grey) upper material. I could have numbered them down to five, if the fabric would have been wide enough to cut the back and the whole full circle skirt in one.

Here we go, some further draping tests:

Skirt is attached, back pleated. || Draping the sides, testing the postion of the black strip.

Finished!! For now just some details.

This week I’m working on another outfit from my Fifties-Rococo-collection. Here you’ve got a first impression. The entire dress will be mounted on a bodice made from linen and cotton, last pic is a very first “sketch” of the upper drapery.

Now featuring menswear! (Well, I’ve been making menswear for quite some time, but I must admit, I just didn’t own a proper dressdummy for taking viable photos). The groom’s wish was to wear a Kilt — preferrably a black one — with a matching jacket. And as I found the classical combination of a short tailored jacket and vest a little bit boring and not really suitable for an off-beat-wedding, we went for a short uniform-styled jacket made from black loden and appliquéed leather stripes.

Here are some photos of one of my most recent commissions. The bride wished to wear a regency-ensemble and it should feature green. Here you are, a full regency gown and open robe with a modern twist. The dress is made of very fine off-white woollen crepe, the robe of black-on-black woollen Tartan (to match the groom’s Kilt), the detachable sleeves are made of green dupiony silk, lined with black linen, the robe itself is partially lined with the same green silk, polyester taffeta is used as train-protection. Pictures of the happy bride (and groom) will follow soon!

I’ve been extremely busy during the last weeks, not only working on several commissions but also preparing a photoshoot with twelve models and a little fashion show. Both took place on the same day.

Tartan-invasion!

Well, finally! The last one of the modern Bustle-dresses I’ve made. This gown also dates from 2009. It’s made from black wool, a little bit of cotton satin and a polyester-blend red Tartan. The dress consists of three parts, a skirt with all the drapery mounted on it, a sleeveless bodice and a longsleeved Bolero-jacket. The short train has some tiny loops inside and may be gathered up, if it should not drag on the ground.

The Raven Dress

Made in 2009 and worn for this shooting with Pierre Leszczyk. The name given to this dress derives from the a little adventurous story behind the vintage hat (sorry, currently german only) worn with this outfit.

Made from duchesse, tulle and various metal ornaments and lacing hooks. It’s a modernised Tournure-dress, no additional underconstruction required. With lots of pleating and other kinds of fabric manipulation this was another 100-plus hours of work – project.
